Own brief studio work- painting on skin : Life line

Kath Howard (c)
In this piece I focused more on a place which gave my model a more uncomfortable feeling in this case a Hospital. Whilst speaking to her about what she didn't like, Jazz explained her discomfort about the red tubes always there and sometimes being the only thing keeping a person alive. I also played with the coloured direction lines painted on the floors in the hospital but only working with the colour red and directing the with an arrow to her heart. In this particular painting I only worked on a small part of her body making that the focus point of the photo.

Own brief studio work- painting on skin : Mother vine

Kath Howard (c)
Currently I've been creating my own brief based on painting on skin whilst representing an emotional attachment to a particular place. In this photo I worked using my friend Jazz who was a great model to work with! This idea was based around her garden at home and the feelings she has towards it. The jasmine flower representing herself and the vines representing her mother, both needing each other for protection or something to care for. In this painting I used a mixture of green acrylic and masking tape to stick the vines in place and white and grey acrylic for the flowers. The pose reflects the comforting feeling she gains from being in this particular place. Using a plain background , I felt this helped to bring the two things together separating them from anything else, although I will be looking into adding a more industrial background to show how she feels away from this place.

Screen Print - Thinking Through Drawing Project - Nov 2011

Bird in Tree - (c) Kath Howard 2011
My black and white image for my screen print drawn from a mixture of ideas an images.

Collaborative screen print- (c) Kath Howard 2011
My finished screen print where i worked collaboratively with someone from my class by combining our drawings. Overall I was left with a range of different coloured screen prints and different types of paper in which we worked on through experimenting but chose this one as my final screen print as I really loved the combination of colours and the texture of the brown paper. I really enjoyed screen printing more than I thought and am hoping to come back to this technique again soon in the future.

Bird In Tree - (c) Kath Howard 2011
A quick Lino print for my recent Drawing project. I'm Not a big lino printer myself but after experimenting with the process during this project I really enjoyed it and i'm more than happy with the outcome.

Life Drawing 2011

These are a few of the many drawings I did in my recent life drawing class at my University. I really enjoyed it overall and am really happy with some of the outcomes. Hoping to have another class soon!

Portrait work 2010

Andy Duke- (c) Kath Howard 2010
I thought i'd upload this portrait i did some time ago now to just show the sort of work i enjoy doing, this being one of my favourites and most pleased with. I used acrylics for this piece starting on a dark background in the style of Carrivagio. I'm hoping to do some more portraiture in the future when i get the time :)

Sunrise Sunset 14 day project - October 2011

This project consisted of 14 days by which I had to get up to catch the sunrise and sunset and where I would create a piece each time based on how i felt/ what i saw etc. I was then given a choice of choosing a few to display at the end and here are the following ones i chose all for different reasons.

Street collage- (c) Kath Howard 2011

A collage representation of my street. I chose this one as i love how simple it is and how effective lines can be to create a familiar image.
Colourful sky- (c) Kath Howard 2011

Using think acrylics i layered paint to create this piece based on emotions of discomfort. I really love the textured feel this particular piece gives.
Warm ripples- (c) Kath Howard 2011

For this piece i used a printing technique using thick acrylic painted in a certain direction to get an image which represented the reflection of a puddle yet had a sense of warm-ness which i feel i achieved.
Hazy skies- (c) Kath Howard 2011

With this piece i used the same technique but this time using thin layers of watercolours to create a more scattered and icy effect.- One of my favourite outcomes.
